The Story
Welcome to The Classic Hotel, a historic landmark nestled in the heart of Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. Our story dates back to the late 1950s when this very building served as the cherished home of the Vassilopoulos family.
At that time, Andreas Vassilopoulos, the family patriarch, gained fame for his exceptional talent as a neon sign maker, introducing this art form to Cyprus for the first time. In fact, his groundbreaking work led him to secure a worldwide patent for certain neon sign components. Within these walls, his studio became a bustling hub of creativity and craftsmanship, attracting other artisans like shoemakers and leather masters who set up shops on the ground floor.
Over the years, the house transformed into apartments, and the ground floor evolved into a vibrant commercial space housing 17 shops. Yet, the spirit and legacy of the Vassilopoulos family endured. When Andreas’s sons made the decision to transform the property into a hotel, they aptly named it The Classic Hotel to pay homage to their father’s remarkable legacy.
Today, The Classic Hotel stands as a testament to the Vassilopoulos family’s ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. Located within the ancient Venetian walls of Nicosia, our hotel enjoys a prime position just a stone’s throw away from the “Green Line,” which represents the political division of the city. Despite the challenges faced by a divided city, The Classic Hotel serves as a symbol of resilience and hope.

The street where we reside proudly bears the name of the Queen of Cyprus, Regina.
